Historian
Although America is young in age, its history is rich. Washington, D.C. is home to an abundance of museums, memorials and monuments that pay tribute to the nation's history. During your stay in the district, you may want to split up your visits into several days to make sure there is time to see all the city's must-see treasures.
Spend a day touring the National Mall, originally designed by Pierre Charles L'Enfant in 1791. In the past, the National Mall has served as a gathering place for Union soldiers during the Civil War, as well as the site of the "Bonus March" during World War I and the famous "I Have a Dream" speech delivered by Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in 1963. The National Mall is lined with numerous museums, including the Museum of American History, The Museum of Natural History and the Air and Space Museum.
Much of America's history can be drawn back to the Constitution and democratic system set forth by the Founding Fathers that shape our country today. Dedicate time to touring Capitol Hill to see the U.S. Capitol Building, the House and Senate Offices, the Library of Congress and the Supreme Court and get a complete sense of the gears that make America run.
